Playstation 4 launch has been a tremendous success selling over a million units in just 24 hours in North America. Comparing to the other Playstation consoles launches makes you understand the unbelievable success of the new console.
Playstation One released in September 9,1995 and hit the one million mark only after 9 months! PSone was the first console to ship the 100th million unit,9 years after it's initial launch. Lifetime sales for Sony's first home game console were 102 millions after 10 years in the market.
Playstation 2, the successor to PSone, is the best selling video games console, selling over 155 million units worldwide.In it's North American launch date, PS2 sold slightly more than 500.000 units,in November 2000.
Playstation 3 had a very slow start mainly because of it's price and the lack of games. Mid November 2006 launching in, both, North America and Japan, got Sony with only 350.000 sold consoles. PS3 lifetime sales have surpassed the 80 millions unit margin at the moment but made Sony re-evaluate her strategy, something that we can see clearly in PS4.
